As Will already mentioned you can rename your webapps into whatever you
like but it's always useful to choose such names which enable users
intuitively distinguish between Author's and Public's instances. 
And I think everything will be ok in the future when you've choosen 
Magnolia ;)

Please spend a short time at our documentation.magnolia-cms.com and
wiki.magnolia-cms.com and you'll find that you can use several 
authentications (or develop you own custom as we are open-source). 
As you are interested to LDAP there is also the possibility -
