Thanks for your response but unfortunately it is not working. When clicking on the version action on a website page nothing appears in the box even though I have activated the page many times.
I have a base install 4.1 and I am not using the standard templating kit. Is there something in there that is required to get versioning happening? It is enabled by default. Also by default it is configured so the new version is created when you activate the content. If you want, for the DMS (the Documents menu entry) you can also enable versioning on save (i.e. new version is created every time you save a document there) by going to config:/modules/dms/config and changing value of versionOnSave parameter to true.
