I picked up Freemarker for our implementation, and it was trivial. Some
of my colleagues (coming from an embedded PERL background) missed the
ability to write code, but that can be a good thing in the long run
(although it is more heavy weight in terms of development time).
In general, we decided to avoid JSP since we wished to server templates
from the repository (use the activation mechanism to push out template
level changes). Also, from previous experience, we know that quite a lot
of JSP tag libraries (including the JSTL) have memory leaks, making them
unsuitable for robust sites.
