I am new to Magnolila, and recently I took an action that resulted in the
corruption of a node in the Magnolia system. I would like to understand what
happened, if possible, because I was fired from my job because of it.

Each page had many items on it, and each item had associated subitems such as
a header, body, footer, etc. At the item level there were 'start' and 'end'
publishing dates, which were edited via a pop-up form. the date time was
entered in 24-hr format, e.g. an end date might be 08-01-2011 23:59:59.
However, on the page editing view the time would appear in red text in 12-hr
format ('11:59:59 PM'). Now here is what happened.

Apparently I incorrectly entered "11" instead of "23", was informed and went
into edit to fix it. Did so, saved the pop-up edit form, but the parent page
edit view did not show the new time in the red text. So I did not know if my
edit was actually saved or not. I decided to open the pop-up again, and leave
both start and end fields blank, as a kind of reset before trying again. As far
as I know, these fields were not required. The edit window let me do this, but
on Save the whole page (node) corrupted somehow. No error message or dialog
ever appeared, just a lot of code in edit window.

Although this happened on a development server, I was told the whole system had
been compromised and I was let go.

This makes no sense to me. If the fields were required, shouldn't I have seen
an error dialog? What did I do wrong?
