Jeff, This sounds like an horrible story.
We are not aware of anything that would make anything crash or corrupt nodes by entering a time 12 hours earlier than intended. It also sounds like you were a fairly ancient version of Magnolia; scheduled activation was re-introduced as a default feature in 4.3, but you describe what seems to be the way it worked with either old sample pages, or custom pages. (the red text is also an indicator of something very custom) It is thus difficult for us to guess what might have happened at all. Of course if you have more details, perhaps we can think of something, but the worse that could happen, afaict, is that the page would be published 12 hours earlier than intended, or that it removed too early from a public instance. Nothing that should cause the Lastly, that a mistake on a development server would compromise a complete, non-dev, system is preposterous.
