First idea that comes in mind in this case is that you should check the anonymous role permissions on the public instance. Probably the role anonymous is missing the read only permission to the media and playlist repositories, causing those effects. Happens very often also with the data module. I would suggest you to login as admin in the public instance and check, and *not* changing the anonymous role on admin machine and publish it.
