You might have more data in production then in the test instance. You might have many more sessions running at the same time making other search queries on public instance then you have on authoring instance. The message you've got told you that cache abandoned waiting for cache version of this page to be generated and tries again (because it assumes that previous attempt failed). As for fine tuning, just instert few time points in there to see how long does it take to execute the search, how long to retrieve the collection of results and how long it takes to iterate over it. That should give you good enough impression on where the time is spent and what part is worth of optimisation effort.
