a) I DO understand that Magnolia needs to put as much effort as possible in the
new Magnolia, really. What I do not understand however (and along with me even
some people at Magnolia) is how NOT providing an EXISTING and CRUCIAL bugfix to
CE users helps you here.

b) You don't need to convince ME to upgrade to a newer version. I'm all in
favor of Magnolia 5. You'll need to convince our customers that they need to
invest _again_ in an upgrade which is _again_ not smooth/automatic as we used
to have it from Magnolia 1 until Magnolia 4.4. What we get to hear from them
is: "What? The upgrade is so complicated? That's strange. You know, on this
other website, that I am involved with – it's running on [insert your choice of
SMB CMS here] – we never had these problems". Of course they do have other
problems, but still...

But as Magnolia never has to deal with SMB customers I can understand that it's
hard for you to see it from this point of view.

We on our side never missed a chance to convince our customers to upgrade. But
transitions like this take time. And I do hope that transitions will be
smoother agin in the future. After all it's been a bumpy ride:
- 4.x: Introduction of STK > Everybody was "encouraged" to use STK > involved a
big investment
- 4.5: Switch to STK 2 > Again everybody was "encouraged" to upgrade > huge
investment
- 5: Switch to Vaadin > I don't think that "encouraged" is the right word here
anymore... ;-)
- 5.x: "STK has to go, and go fast" (Quote by the CVO) > The next rupture seems
to be waiting around the corner although this was downplayed at the conference.

Although I see the reasoning behind each of these changes, there's just so much
bumps in the road an integrator and it's customers can handle. I personally
think the road has been bumpy enough lately, don't you? Forcing the drivers to
go full speed on a bumpy road will only lead to accidents...
