I also faced problems with getting old files served from the stale
cache. 

You could also try (if that is a possibility in your case), simply
deleting the "cache" folder on the public instance & testing again.

Also, RC2 has an activation bug that affects the cache on the public
stage,
as I recall. You might want to try deactivating (which should clear the
cache) and reactivating -- that cleared the cache in our case.
