We are currently using Castor 0.9.9 but are trying to upgrade to a newer version. Will you be creating a binary with the newest patches sometime soon? We could build it for testing purposes. But, for production, we'd prefer a "production" version.

You have come across a change in Castor that has been introduced quite some time ago, and that has been discussed on the mailing lists in quite some length.
