I've try to run JMeter 2.13 on an ubuntu 12.04.5 fresh install (desktop version) and the 'tecadmin.net' java 8 installation with success.

I thinks that you have installed the Ubuntu 12.04 server edition. You must install the GUI minimal environment with this command:
sudo apt-get install xorg

(Reference: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ServerGUI - section X11 Server Installation)

Works fine on my test ubuntu 12.04 server fresh install + xorg packages and dependencies + 'tecadmin.net' java 8 installation

I did installed libxrender1 persisted, as well as part of my solution was to
change directory first I put jmeter under root directory then I changed and I
put it under home directory and downgraded java version , which happened to
work.

Probably you need to install libxrender1 (sudo apt-get install
libxrender1) on your machine.

JMeter is compliant with Java 8. (and if not, then we (Apache JMeter
team) will be happy to know the bug)

Hi all,

I have installed Jmeter (latest version) on Ubuntu machine… after I
installed Java , I got the following error when trying to run "sudo sh
jmeter.sh" :

An error occurred:
/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre/lib/amd64/libawt_xawt.so: libXrender.so.1:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Anybody bumped into this problem, if so, and you have solutions I will
be more than happy to hear about it.

Thanks,
