1.4 is not ready for production use yet. You should use 1.2.4 or 1.2.5-dev unless your needs are very ordinary and you are willing to spend quite a bit of time fixing the many pieces that are not well tested in 1.4. Based on the e-mails I've seen on the dev list I wouldn't expect a production-ready 1.4 version in less than 2 months, maybe more.
