this would be no issue for us.
we have good experiences with using eclipse 3.3.x and java 1.4 based
projects. really old ones are often not migrated to maven anyway.
there is still the possibility to release the projects from command line
with java 1.4.
java 1.5 as a requirement is ok (+1 vote) :-)
