I thought I'd let you know how I'm using m2eclipse, maven and eclipse, since it might save you some time and alternatively, someone else might be able to say whether it's worth going further. I'm under intense pressure to get a project finished so I haven't had time to upgrade from 0.0.12 to 0.9.x, and (correct me if I'm wrong) m2eclipse and WTP integration needs to go a little further before it's worth relying on m2eclipse for webapps - unless you're beta testing.
Adam, it is certainly your right to stay on nearly 8 month version of m2eclipse, but I don't think it would be fair to say this about present WTP integration. Yes it has few shortcomings and we could have done a better job in documenting those shortcomings. This is where community could actually help us. So, please by all means do help us update wiki pages. Editing is allowed for anyone, you just need to create an account at Codehaus. From the top of my head the current shortcomings are:
- WTP EJB, RAR and EAR project types are not implemented yet
- WTP can't deploy web app if it has dependencies that have same artifactIds and different groupId
- Maven war overlays are not supported
- warpath Maven plugin is not supported
Anyways, I would like to encourage anyone to try WTP integration in m2eclipse 0.9.4. You can start from this mini howto. http://docs.codehaus.org/display/M2ECLIPSE/WTP+mini+howto

No disrespect intended, and I appreciate your concern to encourage people to use the latest version, but nobody else had answered the OP.

I don't think any is taken, but we're moving toward the 1.0 and that's what we're planning to support. We don't support 0.12 anymore because we almost completely rewritten it and the 0.12 was versioned as such to indicated a work in progress. We plan to make integration that's bullet proof but that's the goal of the 1.0.

Supporting WAR overlays and the warpath plugin are not trivial things, and not necessary the best way to go. We don't know yet but we do know that as we approach 1.0 the integration is getting incredibly solid. We are investing in QA, having proper release schedules and release criteria. This is required as we move into Eclipse proper.

Most who have tried the newer versions have been generally much happier and a lot more works because the plugin has been completely revamped.

For a long time I would always download and use the latest version and also do that for other developers in my office but it got to the point with 0.0.12 where m2eclipse was simply good enough to do everything I needed, I had worked out how to configure WTP to work with it, and the pressure of work peaked, so that's where I stopped. It wasn't just me whose time I was worried about.

I dream of time when the pressure eases off and I can play a little again.
Hopefully it's not too far off.
