The suggestion (in the jira comment thread) to simply change the pom is something I do not wish to do as the pom is also the recipe for CI builds. Any chance of reopening that ticket? For all I care, you could just add a checkbox "in place target" that would cause m2e to target both the target directory *and* src/main/webapp/WEB-INF.
