Hi,

but sort of mirroring it on the online forum? So if you post to the forum it
will be forwarded to the mailing list and vice versa.

I think viewing Commentext as a forum on steroids is fair. Commentext does
versioning of Midgard articles in a forum like environment. I believe what
originaly defined Paul's application was the repeated questions that
recieve excellent answers but the become lost. I'm sure that's a limited
understanding of Pauls requirements.

I suspect what Jakob Nielsen ultimately envisions is capturing these
valuable threads and making them easier to review. So, the application for
doing this exists. Commentext fulfills this requirement and more. Jakob,
would you be interested in viewing Commentext and attempting to
understand Paul's intent.

I proposed to Paul that we put the Midgard documentation in Commentext
which may or may not be what the application was originaly designed for.
However, it seems a perfect fit. Paul has modified Commentext to deal with
our documentation concerns.

Commentext looks to me like a replacement for Annotations, because it
allows comments on documents but it goes much further by allowing comments
to be versioned, accepted versions to be identified and user accounts can
be assigned which puts a person in the position of being the editor for
specific documents. It enables new topics to be added within a tree of
topics, new articles within existing trees, etc.

If Commentext were able to deal with docbook, sgml or xml we'd replace the
entire Midgard documentation strategy with Commentext yesterday. If
Repligard were available, we'd probably be running Commentext on the main
Midgard site. For the moment, we're going to piece meal the documentation
into Commentext and I'll maintain the CVS docbook by hand until the
concept proves itself. Afterwards, we'll need someone to help with a
solution for integrating sgml into Commentext or simply wrapping the
articles in sgml tags and commiting those to CVS.

While this is where we're headed with documentation, the concerns that
Jakob has can be treated in the same way. I guess pull the interesting
threads out of the mailing list, maunaly :(, put them into Commentext and
then make people aware of the forum and put it into use.
