Hi,
We have a number of student groups who have selected more or less nifty
web related projects as their Final Year piece. Some of them decided to
use midgard as the application server. In fact, I have pointed them to
all sorts of other options (cocoon, zope, ariadne, ezpublish,
php-only,...), because there is no standard answer what to use for which
purpose, but those who will go for midgard have good reasons for their
choice.
I am afraid, it will be me who gets lumbered to install a new central
midgard server for these students, because our sysadmins and tech
support stuff is totally occupied with other very urgent problems. Just
a few questions about what would you recommend:
1. Old admin site or asgard? (We do need sitegroups)
2. Beta7 or cvs?
3. Platform will likely be SuSE Linux 7.0. Are there any issues, for
example known problems with the versions of mysql or apache/apxs?
3. I have actually always used an installation --without-sitegroups, but
I do understand all principle ideas about sitegroups. I have
installed/updated midgard several times and have some experience in
troubleshooting. What should I read or know about some possibly rather
subtle nuances concerning sitegroups? Is there possibly something which
is not in the current doc but nevertheless worth to know?
TIA,
Frank
