D'oh. I just realized that what was being logged doesn't
correspond to what you had me insert into the code!
Back to the drawing board. :) I will re-post later with an appropriate
snippet of syslog. BTW, I'm not sure where that output to stderr is
supposed to go...? That message isn't getting logged, AFAICT.
