I've seen some reports in the mysql mail archives about MySQL closing
connections when they've been idle too long, which would report the 
error above. The fix proposed by Alan in 
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=midgard-dev&m=98697190107073&w=2, 
checked in on 21st of April will most likely fix that.
