1.4.1 is having problems. If you get CVS to compile, that's your best 
bet, otherwise 1.4.

What does
$ nm libmidgard.so.5.0.0 | grep mgd_select_db
return? You should see something like

00004730 T mgd_select_db

If not, midgard-lib is not recent.

Probably, mkall does that by default now. That will go away as PHP sorts 
out their bootstrap system.
