I have for the longest time wanted a more comprehensive bugtracking
system than we have now, features I need being the ability to attach
files (logs, whatever) to a bug, severity levels, etc.
Our current bugtracker serves its basic task well but would be
difficult to expand in these directions.
I therefore propose to move our bugtracking to sourceforge. The
tracker has the things I need, is well-hosted and the bugtracker
itself will be guarded by the SF staff (maintenance and whatnot).
I would also be looking for someone to take responsibility for the
bugtracker, to create/maintain categories, and to perform triage to a
certain extent ([re]classification of bugs, severities, assignment,
requests for additionali info, ...). That doesn't mean we won't be
doing this ourselves too, but it'd certainly help a lot.
For this you'd need to be subscribed to dev@ and be in tune with what
the developers do -- you need not be a developer yourself but it's
certainly not a drawback :) Look at this as an opportunity to boss the
developers around :)
