Lots of interesting stuff.

My initial observation:

1. The installation problems with Midgard are worse than I'd thought. I've
always found it a bit of a pain to install myself, but I muddled through.
There's a small army of potential users who seem to have tried and failed
to get anything working. We really need to find a way to simplify things
and get organized about .rpms and .debs.

2. We need a propaganda team. Right now I'm sitting with Thommie in his
home as he makes a heroic effort to get some posters and stuff printed out.
All the marketing material plus user contributed propaganda should be
centralized.

3. Despite all of it, people really do use and like Midgard. It's encouraging
to hear users who have looked at the various solutions on the market,
proprietary and open-source, and have chosen Midgard on their own. No salesman
needed to call. Neat.

So we're poised to take over the world, but we just need to sort out these
annoying little problems. The installation thing is a big part of it.

About installation...

One thing I'd like to try is packaging all the dependancies: Apache, Expat,
MySQL, and PHP along with the Midgard source and an install script that
puts everything in it's own subdirectory (/usr/local/midgard/apache,
/usr/local/midgard/mysql, etc.). That way the install script has control
over all the important packages. It should be possible to create an install
script this way that really works every single time.

I wouldn't suggest this as the only install mechanism, but having it would
give people a chance to try Midgard with relatively little pain. Having
it all in one place would give the opportunity to delete everything easily
to.

... Ami.
