My question....is anybody running Midgard with Oracle as a back end? Is there anyhope that I might fond a way to not have to rewrite our whole site and still make the Oracle baskers happy?

But realistically, the right way to go with supporting other DBs besides MySQL is through libgda2, like Alexander proposed. However, I'm afraid that will take a while.
So far everybody has been quite happy with MySQL, but if there are enough interested parties, maybe a push to this direction can be arranged.
The MySQL 4.1.x licensing causes some issues for us anyway...
