Exactly. That's basically what we've got now (using rsync, could as easily use OwnCloud), and if Ubuntu didn't keep breaking audio settings and sleep stuff, and if the state of Linux media players wasn't headed strongly from "OK" (xmms, apparently deprecated) to "suck" (the current crop) with a clear "OMGWTF" trajectory, we'd keep it. And basic Android tablets more than capable of being a basic media center are ~$60. Android tablets with enough storage for our modest music collection are freakin' expensive. I've installed Subsonic. I hate the "lease software" model, if it were "pay us $25-50" I'd be all over it, the $1/month thing... is the sort of rent-seeking that emotionally doesn't sit well with either of us, but if she gets along with the UI on any of the Subsonic clients, well...
