I think you got me wrong. If you successfully installed the spellchecker 
("If it works"), then it would be obvious. During writing an email, the 
icon would be active as would the checkbox in the preferences dialog. I 
just don't know, if it is possible to install the spellchecker 
(successfully) in Beonex Comm.. I thought, it were, but if you say it 
doesn't work, then it is probably impossible. I.e. forget that vanishing 
icon.

Yes, I remember that old bug. I don't remember what it means, though - 
does it still download, or is the waiting cursor just plain wrong and 
there is nothing actually processed?

There is some hope, though: Somebody is developing and integrating an 
open-source spellchecker. If he finishes the work, the odds are good 
that some future version of Beonex Comm. contains a spellchecker and has 
at least one easily installable available.
