The answer to your question is in the document which you linked to -
search for "Why not Cloudscape?". Basically, Cloudscape wasn't an option
at the time we had to make the decision, because it was not really
available at this time (except in some announcements and letters of intent).

The fact that Sun chose Derby as backend for future Java products is a
different story, which I'll comment in a different thread in [EMAIL PROTECTED],
where this has been raised recently.
