Marc,
Thanks for the detailed answer. The mix of 32-bit and 64-bit is for some
programs a major problem. However, as the 64-bit environment is so much
faster than the emulated 32-bit mode and as most programs (e.g.
browsers, audio applications, etc) work without a problem a will try to
solve the problems with the 32-bit programs which are trying to mix with
64-bit libraries. I know this is possible as one of the major advantages
of UNIX (Linux) over the MS operating systems is the fact that each
program runs in his own environment, so principally a 32-bit program
runs in its own 32-bit environment. It's only a question of finding the
correct libraries and the correct versions. The latter you have
indicated clearly. As I don't use the older versions you use (I run
MySQL 4.1 and JRE 1.4.2 and OOo 2.0 RC2) I think many problems are
related to the version mix which is not correct. For example, I would
love to have a program jvmsetup but apparently it is in OOO2.0 RC2
integrated somewhere (maybe only a different name) so I cannot use it.
I will look on and I'm sure it will be solved. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again for your help
Joep
