IHi All

I have lurking on this for a year or so never posting as I never understanding
the issues.

Background

I have 4 XP and 1 Mandrake 10.1 boxes in which I am attempting to connect
OpenOffice 2.0 to a MySQL data base located in a 6th computer which I am
planning on using as a server.

At present I have OpenOffice 2.0 installed in 2 of the 4 XP boxes, the Linux
box, and Mandrake 9.2 installed in the box I intend to use for the MySQL
sserver. I would use a later distribution for the MySQL server but there are
hardware installation issues which make system installation difficult besides
this should suffice as a start.

Currently

I have MySQL and OpenOffice running in a Mandrake 10.1 laptop and am
attempting to connect OpenOffice to MySQL by either ODBC or JDBC.

For JDBC I have Java run time environment installed – I think. I need to test
it to verify this. I have no ides of how to do this or a source of a How-To
for installation for a JDBC connection.

For ODBC I have installed ALL packages in Mandrake 10.1 with ODBC in the
title. I have attempted to test per “OpenOffice.org 1.0, ODBC, and MySQL
How-To” which I got from www.unixodbc.org/doc/OOoMySQL.pdf by usage of isql.
ODBC is not functioning.

Mechtilde on the OpenOffice users list sent me a URL to a How-To he is
developing @ www.mechtilde.de This is all in German but Babblefish works
great an I was able to translate it. According to this tutorial for Debian
the following packages are required:

Packages Installed
openoffice.org-2.0 openoffice.org
unixodbc-2.2.4-11 unixodbc
mysql-client-4.1-4.1.11-1 mysql-client-4.1
mysql-common-4.1-4.1.11-1 mysql-common-4.1
mysql-server-4.1-4.1.11-1 mysql-server-4.1

Packages Not Installed
unixodbc are-2.2.4-11 unixodbc are
odbcinst1-2.2.4-11 odbcinst1
libmyodbc-3.51.09-1 libmyodbc
libmysqlclient10-3.23.56-3 libmysqlclient10
libmysqlclient14-4.1.11-1 libmysqlclient14
libodbcinstq1-2.2.4-11 libodbcinstq1

In relation to this I have 3 questions:
1.As I know that at times each distributions does things differently thus is
this the correct set of packages?
2.Is there a tutorial / How-To that describes the correct connection procedure
for ODBC and OpenOffice 2.0 similar to the one for 1.0?
3.Is there a tutorial / How-To that describes the correct installation
procedure for JDBC?

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

SOTL

PS: Hopefully I am not on the wrong list for these questions. If so should i
go to the OpenOffice users list or to the Mandrake users list?

Thanks again.
