Hi,

Have you read the doc I sent to the list ? It tells you which ODBC
packages are necessary and which are not.

The automated update tool, URPMI, often adds things that are not really
necessary, but does because that is the way that Mandrake have specified
the library dependencies, just in case, some bright spark decides to use
the most obscure function that 99% of users would never have to use in
the first place. One can always criticize package distribution, but I
would say that URPMI does a fairly good job on the whole.

I'm not an advanced user by any means, but have been using Mandrake for
around 6 years now, and MySQL ODBC database access for more than four
years, so it is true that I've been through most of the gotchas in
geting it up and running. If you have read John McCreesh's document, and
then read mine, the combination of the two might help you along some,
since mine is Mandrake specific.

Anyway, good luck, and keep us posted.

Alex
