Hello All,

I have been thinking about the subject of an example database more and really think it makes sense to talk some about how to put a good one together.

But first - the subject at hand. With a few hours stolen here and there I have put together a new form. In the database I uploaded the other day I did not want to call a single line of basic from the form. Given how Willem described the interaction he was looking for however, I am hard pressed to see a way of not needing a few lines. The question is how few, perhaps.

I have put a new file up for download:
http://www.paintedfrogceramics.com/OpenOffice/eventKeeper/eventKeeper.zip

This zip file includes an updated version of the database, a macro library and a couple of support files. To install it is quite simple. Download the zip file, unpack it to a directory of your choice. Open OpenOffice and bring up the library manager dialog. Select libraries and append. Browse to the directory where you unpacked the zip file and you find a new sub directory named lib, enter this and append the script.xlb file.

Now in the database I started on a new form eventAttendees2 and was looking at how I might use the form filter capabilites to get what we want - but still needed a few lines of code to insert the new record. I did not pursue this form any further, but left here just 'cause.

The form you want to look at is named eventAttendees3. I think form covers most of Willem's usecase, and perhaps a little bit more. It uses only the macros found in Module2 of the eventKeeper basic library.

So, hopefully this new form and library will be closer to a solution for Willem, and it will be a good example to use in a discussion about what should and perhaps shoud not go into an example database. And I will follow up on that subject in a separate email tomorrow.

Drew
