which means they're located in a case-sensitive file system. OOo determines whether the folder you specified is case-preserving or not. If it is, it does accept only .dbf (to prevent name collisions when multiple files have the same name, but different-cased extensions), if it isn't, it accepts and case flavour of .dbf.
