My reply to Kelvin - hopefully at this point the conversation will
continue on this list:

Yes - and that list of known database servers could include an MS
Access file.

Going forward then I will limit the options to MS Windows capable
solutions.

Yes, you are correct each, satellite PC (workstation) will need to
have ODBC or OLE/DB installed and properly configured. MS distributes
both for free, and I can refer you to some good reference material on
the net about how to configure for a shared Access file on W2K .
The bottom line however is that once you have the workstations setup
such that MS Access could share the file, then yes OpenOffice.org and
Base could be used in place of the MS Access program at the
workstations, sharing the database on the W2K server.

If you don't mind I would like to invite you to continue this
discusson on the user mailing list for the Base project. I have
already taken the liberty of posting the previous emails to that list
and will do so with the ones up to here also. For one thing there are
others on that list much smarter then I that could help.
I see that NOOP has already mentioned this possibility, to reiterate
what he said -please check this page
http://dba.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList
and subscribe to the user mailing list there and say hello.
Of course if you prefer we can stay on this list - your call.
Thanks
Drew
