Thanks for the thought. I'm (insanely) careful about extra blanks, either lines or spaces, particularly when things start going wrong. So no, this isn't the thing in this case. It's part of why I was surprised because in my version of Writer I can't move the cursor to a second page, the document stops properly on the first one.
