First, using the method I always use (download via torrent, unpack, install Debs using "sudo dpkg -i *.deb") resulted in a freeze at launch, right after splash screen. Investigating, I found that previous versions 3.5.5 has not been uninstalled by the 3.6.x install. Not typical behavior.
Removed 3.5.5, reinstalled 3.6.0.4. It now launches OK, but sees all by document files as corrupt and won't open them - "general error". I have no idea what the problem might be.
