Right-click on an empty portion of the Taskbar and you should find Cascade Windows, Tile Windows Horizontally, and Tile Windows Vertically (or similar).
But the inability to look at two or more documents simultaneously (as I could do with sheets of paper) is hampering that move. I had hoped that LO had buried the commands somewhere ...
You can open two documents in LibreOffice; you get two windows which you can then resize and position manually or tile or cascade as above. If you prefer, you can save screen space by suppressing toolbars in one or other window. It may not be a single window and it may not be as automatic as you prefer, but it is some sort of a workaround.
(You can split the screen in Calc but not in Writer, it seems.) I trust this helps.
