Oh no, sorry, I was too hasty: adding "-lcurses" to
"gcc -o tcsh - ... -DPROG_NAME="qtcsh" .... -lcrypt"
of course produced just "tcsh", not "qtcsh". Now, can I rename it to qtcsh, or
what's about qtcsh?

Have you tried adding -lcurses or -lncurses to your compile string?
