In Windows XP:
Go to Start-Help and Support
Search "IPv6"
You should get 50 responses.
There is one called "Setting up an IPv6 test lab"
I'll quote the requirements at the bottom of this email.
Everything from explanations and tutorials related to IP6, and XP.

To specifically answer your question running the IP version 6 installer will
allow your client to support IPv4, AND IPV6. Nothing else. You would have
to manually configure your set up to get any of your systems to communicate
with IP6.

Depending on the version, and your clients level of service pack you may
need to run the IPv6 installer every time you restart the computer.
I remember some discussion (when XP was still Beta) it was recommended to
create a batch file to run the IPV6 installer, place the batch file in your
run folder.
This way the installer ran every time you restarted the computer.
