This allows for a shortcut. The 'ip6prefix' keyword allows the user a fake autoconfig. It will use the provide prefix (iff it's /64) with the IID to create an address.
For example, on my system:
# ifconfig -v tu0
tu0: flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
HWaddr 08:00:2b:e5:4e:f7
inet6 fe80::a00:2bff:fee5:4ef7# ifconfig tu0 inet6 ip6prefix 3ffe:1200:4110:1::/64
# ifconifg tu0
tu0: flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
inet6 fe80::a00:2bff:fee5:4ef7
inet6 3ffe:1200:4110:1:a00:2bff:fee5:4ef7Or, I could have done
# ifconfig tu0 inet6 3ffe:1200:4110:1:a00:2bff:fee5:4ef7
to configure the whole address.

I see, thanks for the information. But please let me check one related thing: the man page of ifconfig(8) says:
13. To create an IPv6 address for prefix AB:CD:CE:AB, enter: # ifconfig tu0 inet6 ip6prefix AB:CD:CE:AB::/64
If the prefix lengths are supposed to be static, what does "64" mean above? What happens if we specify other values there? (I don't have a super user privilege on the target machine, so I cannot check it by myself.)
Thanks,
