You can also use poor man's DNS: /etc/hosts (similar exists in MS Windows...).
That still begs the question of how to get the entry into the other user's hosts file, and it only handles the address part, not the port.
But that does remind me that any future DNS-based solution should include SRV support, which includes a port number in the DNS record.
