Shyam, That's the (in)famous RedHat 9 bug :)
Look on the list archive, there's a solution I've posted sometime ago for it. Basically, the single quotes on checking mysql libs... -L'/usr/lib/mysql' -lmysqlclient -lz -lcrypt -lnsl are the cause of the failure. A simple mod on the configure script will make it work for you (check the list archive).
