I have not used the particular modem. You need a driver to see usb modems as
ttys. I imagine you use linux, because there are no usb drivers for Solaris.
The driver will map your modem to a tty port. If you don't know the port by
now (it should be documented with your driver) check with statserial or
messages at boot time. Lastly check with minicom to test your port.
If all of these checks succeed then it is matter of kannel configuration,
which I believe support a default serial modem.
