I see nothing wrong here. All configuration seems good. You are using a 2 year 
old gateway, though. That's what you get for working with binaries...
This doesn't seem as the same logfile, though. As Alvaro suggested, which log 
file listed the error?

          This looks bad. It is complaining that it cannot find "group = core" 
in the configuration file. Which clearly you do have. Furthermore it shouldn't 
start if it didn't have a correct core group. Smells like memory corruption...
          What version gateway are you using?

          Could you send an excerpt from the bearerbox (100 or so lines) from 
its startup?
