What I have always done is simply opened the file of my current radio,
put my cursor on the upper left (Row 0, Column 1), pressed down the
cursor, and cut and pasted down to the lower right-hand corner of my
previous radio's grid file. Then I downloaded the new file from the new
radio, opened it, put my cursor on the upper left (Row 0, Column 1) of
the blank grid and hit "Paste". The only "learning" that has to be done
is reading and understanding the "Settings".

Glen,
You cannot directly upload a generic CSV into any radio. The tab that
you upload needs to be an image (*.img) file that was from the same
(or similar type) of radio that the image came from.
So what you need to is download from the UV-5RM to create an 'image'
(*.img) tab from that radio. Then you can either Import the CSV file
directly into that tab -or- load the CSV into a second tab which will
allow you to then copy-and-paste from the *.CSV tab to the *.IMG tab
and eventually upload the *.IMG tab back into the radio that it
originally came from.
