How confident are you that you got an official version from Fedora?
And does it pass verification checks?

Hi Tim, I can't be 100% certain as I don't remember the url as I didn't take a lot of notice of it as I believed at the time I was getting it from a Fedora site. What verification checks are you referring to, I've never been aware of any?

There's a checksum file you can download to verify that the iso is correct.

https://fedoraproject.org/workstation/download
There's a download button and a check button for each download. If you click the check button, you'll get an explanation about how to verify it.

Hi Samuel, I copied the iso from Windows to Linux and ran the verification test shown on https://www.fedoraproject.org/kde/download, and that check said the file was ok, but it also produced a waring that 17 lines were improperly formatted. I downloaded the iso from https:// www.fedoraproject.org/kde/download overwriting the version I copied from Windows and ran the check again and that process produced the same messages, so I'm assuming what I downloaded is an official copy.

That warning message is unfortunate.  The problem is the checksum file has entries for all the different iso files and the checksum program complains about all the ones that don't exist, but not in a clear way.

I didn't expect that there was anything wrong with your file. It's almost certainly a bios issue.  You need to enable UEFI booting from the DVD.  And possibly disable CSM or legacy mode completely.

Hi Samuel, it must have been a hiccup in the bios at the time as I tried a boot from the DVD yesterday and I got both a bios and a UEFI boot option. What may have been an issue was yesterday the system had definitely parsed the DVD for what it provided, the previous boot may not have had enough time to do the sensing before I booted from it. I can't disable CSM/Legacy mode as if I do that I can't boot from the Blueray burner as the Bios doesn't provide those options. I've now installed F43 in a QEMU VM to test the 6.18 kernel to see if it provides support my wifi device on my motherboard, rather than install it natively and destroy my system as I did a couple of days ago when trying to get things to work with that kernel, and I noticed with the install that QEMU only allows legacy boot mode when loading the iso for the live DVD to do the install, is that normal?
