I've had the same problem with Neumann condenser mic in the 60's. It was the one with sub-miniature valves in the pre-amplifier, way before transistors.  We used the mic in the band and the cable basically precluded any singer's dance moves :-)

Frank, you should be aware that most cable insulation is piezoelectric, enough so that I had an experiment screwed up over a weekend by a local earthquake decades ago. In this case it was a low loss 3/8" coax cable.

Good quality XLR cables are made with graphite loaded materials to minimize effects of moving around the stage. Prestaging cable positions can minimize its movement. But, if you bang on the stuff it's going to complain.
