In /etc/bashrc, you probably want:

[ "$PS1" = "\\s-\\v\\\$ " ] && PS1="[\u@\h \W]\\$ "

instead of:

[ "$PS1" = "\\s-\\v\\\$ " ] && PS1="[\u@\h \w]\\$ "

Personally, the first variant drives me nuts because regardless of whether you are in /usr/lib or ~/tmp/usr/lib it will always say just:

[user@hostname lib]$

which is, IMO, just downright dangerous. Hence why it is different in RSEL6 than in vanilla EL6.
