It is more than just macaddr in ifcfg-eth0
You also have to make sure you have a proper entry in
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules that links eth0 to the real
mac addr. e.g.
SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*",
ATTR{address}=="02:c3:04:01:77:c3", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*",
NAME="eth0"
Cloning systems off of a compress image can leave this file a little
confused.
Indeed, you have to delete 70-persistent-net.rules files when you
prepare the image. Otherwise it'll create a new interface eth1 next time.
I should probably rebuild and reupload my images. ARGH! :)
Though actually it seems like it is just replacing the bad with good. I
will have to conduct another test first before I go through the pain of
new images; there might be some other gotcha yet to be discovered...
The process does indeed tend to be iterative.
