Other thoughts? Still not working for me, even after I restarted FF.
type about:plugins in your address bar, what do you see?
Currently I just see:
NPAPI Plugins Wrapper 0.9.91.5
that's nspluginwrapper, right?
Ayup. Thought I needed it. Guess I don't. But...
what's your arch, i386 or x86_64?
i386. I foist 64 bit woes on my kids :-)
then you could start by uninstalling nspluginwrapper, it's for x86_64
and it could interfere with your plugins.
eg it doesn't seem to like the newer flash.
I disabled it within Firefox - there was no option to "delete" it
there. Restarted Firefox, but that didn't help. Next I did an "apt-get
remove" of nspluginwrapper - it's now quite gone from /usr/lib - and
restarted Firefox. Still no luck. "about:plugins" says no plugins are
installed. At all. So it looks like it's not seeing (or acting on) the
symbolic link.
The hint offered here:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux.html#Flash
suggests there's a file (flashplayer.xpt) needed in the "components"
directory. In mine, I see:
# ls /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.2/components
aboutRobots.js nsMicrosummaryService.js
browser.xpt nsPlacesTransactionsService.js
FeedConverter.js nsSafebrowsingApplication.js
FeedWriter.js nsSearchService.js
fuelApplication.js nsSearchSuggestions.js
libbrowsercomps.so nsSessionStartup.js
libbrowserdirprovider.so nsSessionStore.js
libnkgnomevfs.so nsSetDefaultBrowser.js
nsBrowserContentHandler.js nsSidebar.js
nsBrowserGlue.js WebContentConverter.js
More thoughts? Thanks for the ones offered so far. FWIW, it's not that
I have an inherent problem with downloading the plugin from Adobe
directly and installing it by hand. But it would be nice if I could
manage it with apt-get.
