Looks like it doesn't make sense to try to patch around it, sorry. They

As far as I know both Wx and Gtk have been discontinued. The other interfaces are no replacement :)

To be honest, I think it would be good if we can convince developers to at least support the latest RHEL release for their stable trees. It would help Linux a great deal if software doesn't rely on the latest and greatest libraries. Or at least also supports the older libraries.

But we have long way to go before that becomes common knowledge, if ever.
