Because your project is very small, I would suggest not trying to "upgrade" it as much as start over on the build with a new project. What would be easiest for you is probably to start with a top-level POM project, then use the EJB, WAR and EAR archetypes to generate a new skeleton framework within that directory. You'll need to read up how to do that, but it's not hard. http://www.xinotes.org/notes/note/586/ looks like a good place to start. Do all this with Maven 3.0.4, not earlier versions. Once you have that building and a simple web page calling a simple EJB, copy your files from the old project into the new one and get the old application running in the new build. Success with new systems is about starting with smaller successes and building upwards to your goal. It sounds like you should plan a few days to a week to get things resolved but you should not have problems.
